Thunder crack… the NHL is back! The first puck of the NHL 2021-22 season was dropped last night highlighted by the Seattle Kraken’s inaugural game and we have a full season preview for you. While winter is coming let’s not forget about October baseball. Three huge MLB playoff games took place yesterday as two teams were sent home packing. We also have some more news regarding Jon Gruden’s resignation and the Kyrie-Covid vaccine saga. Finally, we dropped a new Speak Your Mind podcast episode! Let’s have a Humpday people!

WTF Stat of the Day: Entering Sunday afternoon, NFL teams were 401-0 in the Super Bowl era when scoring 40 points or more in a game without committing a turnover. Following the Browns loss, that number is now 401-1 – Cleveland blew a late lead vs the Chargers on Sunday to lose 42-47.

Nets GM Sean Marks announced yesterday that the team will not permit Kyrie Irving to play on a part-time status – Irving still needs a Covid-19 vaccine in order to join the team full time

The NFLPA is calling for the NFL to release all emails related to the WFT investigation that led to the dismissal of Jon Gruden – the NFLPA is hoping for full transparency from the NFL and Goodell

Astros are headed to the ALCS after destroying the White Sox 10-1 in Game 4 – more on this below!

Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon will miss the team’s opener Wednesday after testing positive for Covid – the NHL also announced that only 4 players remain unvaccinated

Canadiens and young star Nick Suzuki agreed to an 8-year, $63M contract

    Season’s Top Storylines

The NHL signed new TV rights deals ditching NBC and signing ESPN and TNT as the broadcasting partners for the next several years which should bring a new energy and viewership to the game – we love this move for the NHL, brand new audience for them
Tampa Bay has now won back-to-back Stanley Cups and the race to win a third straight will be a battle, but their roster remains stronger enough to get it done again
Seattle Kraken is the newest franchise to join the NHL as squad #32 – more on their first game below
Jack Eichel, a top 5 player in the NHL, has requested a trade from the Buffalo Sabres after the organization failed to handle his neck injury properly – Jack is a big-time Blitzer, while the media is giving him a bad rap, he is an AMAZING dude and will find the right home soon
After 103 points in a shortened season last year, can Connor McDavid pick up where he left off and help the Oilers get to contender status alongside the partnership of Leon Draisaitl?
The NHL has two new leaders as both Boone Jenner of the Blue Jackets and Mark Giordano of the Kraken were named the team captain’s before the start of the season – or you can be like the Rangers and name 6 assistant captains, yes this is real

Final: Pittsburgh Penguins 6, Tampa Bay Lightning 2

The back-to-back champion Lightning started their journey for a third straight Stanley Cup with a loss as the Penguins rained in on Tampa Bay’s party
Just 12 seconds into the 2nd period Danton Heinen buried a Jeff Carter feed after a misplay from G Andrei Vasilevskiy, leading to the Lighting’s downfall after their pregame banner ceremony – Jon Cooper pulled Vasilevskiy with 6 minutes left, helping hit the over of 5.5 goals, THANKS COACH
Final: Vegas Golden Knights 4, Seattle Kraken 3

The Kraken opened their inaugural season playing the Golden Knights, who are only in their 5th season, and it was everything you could hope for
After falling down 3-0 with two goals from Max Pacioretty, Seattle battled back to tie the game after Ryan Donato scored the first EVER goal for the franchise
But less than a minute after Seattle tied the game, Chandler Stephenson would score a “questionable” goal to sink the Kraken on NHL opening night

    AL Divisional Series

In a must-win situation for the Dodgers, they got the job done at home forcing a winner-take-all Game 5 between the teams with the best regular season records – first ever series of two teams with over 104 wins
Mookie Betts was a huge part of their win with 3 RBIs including a 2-run HR
Game 5 is tomorrow at 9:07pm ET on TBS in San Fran – bring the popcorn, folks!
Game 4: Atlanta Braves 5, Milwaukee Brewers 4 (ATL wins the series 3-1)

In Game 4, the Braves had to rally from two deficits to eliminate the Brewers and move onto the NLCS for the second straight year – they had a 3-1 lead over the Dodgers in the NLCS last year but blew it
2020 NL MVP Freddie Freeman dealt the deciding blow with a solo home run in the 8th inning that sent Hot ‘Lanta into a frenzy
